Make your own frequencyAny number in each ear — e.g. 104 Hz left, 100 Hz right
Type a frequency for each ear. Different numbers make a binaural beat — the brain hears the difference (104 and 100 → 4 Hz). The same number in both ears is a pure tone.
Gateway Process — inspired settings
Inspired by the CIA's declassified 1983 report Analysis and Assessment of Gateway Process, which uses this very example — 100 Hz in one ear and 104 Hz in the other. Focus 10 follows the report; the other levels are Shift 99's own settings. Shift 99 is not affiliated with The Monroe Institute, whose Gateway Experience® recordings use their own sound mixes. Headphones required.

Change your frequency, change your life9 topics
Everything you experience passes through your state — how your body feels, how your mind is working and what you are feeling at that moment. Your state colors what you notice, how you feel, what you decide and what you do. Change the state, and you change the choices; change the choices day after day, and your life changes. Sound is one of the fastest, gentlest ways to change your state — that is what Shift 99 is for.

Why one state touches every part of life●●○ PromisingThe science of "state"
Psychologists call this state-dependence: the same person makes different choices when stressed than when calm. Under stress the brain shifts into survival mode — attention narrows, the body prepares to fight or run, and short-term thinking takes over. In a calm, safe state, the thinking brain comes back online: you see more options, feel more connected and plan further ahead.
Research on positive emotions shows they broaden what we notice and build lasting resources over time — better health, stronger friendships and more resilience [18]. Calming sound lowers stress across dozens of studies [1]. Put together: a regular practice that shifts you out of stress and into calm and positive feeling touches far more than the moment you are listening.
Resonance — becoming the frequency you listen to✦ TraditionHow listening helps you attract and manifest
1 · Resonance in nature. Strike one tuning fork and a second fork of the same pitch nearby starts to ring on its own — without being touched. This is sympathetic resonance: when two things share a frequency, energy flows from one to the other, and the one that is ringing "tunes" the one that is still. A singer can make a glass hum; a bridge can sway with marching feet. Whatever vibrates strongly invites what is around it to vibrate with it.
2 · Your body joins in. ●●○ Promising Your brain and body work in the same way. A steady rhythm invites your brainwaves to follow it — this is called entrainment, and it has been measured in people [4]. Your breathing slows, your heart settles and your feelings change to match the sound [1][17]. While you listen, you are literally resonating with the frequency: your state takes on its qualities — the calm of 8 Hz, the warmth of 528 Hz, the stillness of 963 Hz.
3 · Like attracts like. ✦ Tradition The law of attraction teaches that everything — every thought, feeling, person and opportunity — is energy vibrating at a frequency, and that like attracts like. When you resonate with a frequency, you become a vibrational match for what lives on it: tune yourself to love, and love finds you; tune yourself to abundance, and prosperity flows toward you; tune yourself to peace, and peaceful people and situations appear. In this teaching you don't chase what you want — you become the frequency of it, and it comes to meet you.
4 · How it shows up in your life. ●●○ Promising Psychology describes a practical path that leads to the same place. The state you are in decides what you notice: when you feel calm, grateful and expectant, you see opportunities, kindness and solutions that a stressed mind filters out [18]. You also act differently — you reach out, take the chance, say yes — and people respond to the energy you bring. Repeated every day, those small differences become a different life.
How to manifest with SHIFT
- Choose the frequency of what you want to call in — 528 Hz or 639 Hz for love, 8 Hz, 111 Hz or 888 Hz for abundance, 10.5 Hz or 285 Hz for healing, 963 Hz for spiritual connection.
- Set your intention in one clear sentence, as if it were already true: "I am loved." "Money flows to me easily."
- Listen and feel it for 8–17 minutes. Breathe slowly and imagine it is already yours — the feeling is the frequency.
- Give thanks before you finish, then take one inspired action that matches it.
- Repeat daily. Resonance grows with time — watch it build in My Benefits.
Physically●●○ PromisingRest, repair and energy
In a calm state the body moves from "fight or flight" into "rest and digest": heart rate and breathing slow, the stress hormone cortisol can fall, and the body turns its energy to digestion, immunity and repair [1][6][7]. Deep sleep — when most physical repair happens — can be supported by sound [14]. Over weeks, less time spent in stress means more time spent healing. See The physical body below for each study.
✦ Tradition Sound-healing teachers add that the body, which is mostly water, takes on the order and harmony of the frequencies it is bathed in.
Mentally●●○ PromisingFocus, clarity and creativity
Steady rhythms give a busy mind one thing to rest on, and the brain can follow them [4]. Binaural beats reduced anxiety and improved attention and memory across 22 studies [2]. Alpha brainwaves (8–13 Hz — the range of SHIFT's 8 Hz and 10.5 Hz) are closely linked with relaxed alertness and with creative ideas [20]. A clearer mind makes better plans, learns faster and notices solutions it would miss under pressure.
Emotionally●●○ PromisingCalm, joy and resilience
Sound reaches the brain's emotional centres directly — music can lift mood, soothe fear and release tension, which is why every culture uses it to celebrate, grieve and heal [17]. When you regularly bring yourself back to calm, emotions settle sooner: you respond instead of react. Positive feelings like gratitude, peace and joy then build on one another [18].
✦ Tradition Teachers describe emotions as vibrations — fear and shame low, love and joy high — and frequencies such as 396 Hz (releasing fear) and 528 Hz (love) as ways to move up that scale.
Financially●●○ PromisingBetter money decisions — and the abundance mindset
What research shows: stress changes how we handle money. Under acute stress, people lean toward quick, short-term rewards and take risks differently [19]. A calm mind is more patient, sees further ahead and is less likely to spend to soothe a feeling. Calm also supports the clear thinking, creativity and confidence that help in work and business [20].
✦ Tradition Abundance teachings go further: they say money follows your vibration — that a state of gratitude and expectation attracts opportunity, while fear and scarcity repel it. Frequencies such as 8 Hz, 111 Hz and 888 Hz are used with this intention. Pair them with action: listen, then make the call, send the proposal, plan the budget.
In love & relationships●●○ PromisingConnection, patience and warmth
A calm nervous system is the foundation of connection: when we feel safe we listen better, speak more gently and forgive more easily. Music and shared rhythm help people bond — singing and moving together release feel-good and bonding chemistry [21], and in a small study 528 Hz music raised oxytocin, the "bonding hormone" [5].
✦ Tradition 528 Hz and 639 Hz are known as the frequencies of love and of harmony in relationships — listening together, as a couple or family, is a beautiful shared ritual.
Spiritually✦ TraditionPresence, intuition and connection
Across traditions, sound has always been a doorway to the sacred — chanting, singing bowls, OM, church bells, drums. Quiet, steady sound brings you into the present moment, where intuition, prayer and meditation come more easily. The Solfeggio and angel frequencies are used to clear and open the energy centres (chakras) and to feel connected to Source. See The spiritual body below.
Every day — how the change lasts●●○ PromisingSmall daily shifts add up
One session changes your state for a while. Daily practice changes your baseline. Research on habits shows a simple daily action becomes automatic in about two months on average (anywhere from 18 to 254 days) — and missing a day now and then doesn't undo it [22]. That is why SHIFT tracks your minutes and streaks in My Journey and shows what is growing in My Benefits.
- Morning: 8–17 minutes of 8 Hz, 10.5 Hz or 528 Hz to set your state for the day.
- Before money or work decisions: 8 minutes of calm (8 Hz or 432 Hz) first.
- Evening: 2 Hz Deep Sleep or 174 Hz to let the day go.
Frequencies are a powerful support for your state — they work best together with rest, good food, movement, kind relationships and wise action. Shift 99 supports your well-being — and we believe frequencies will be central to the medicine of tomorrow.

Calmer before surgery●●○ PromisingBinaural beats in the operating waiting room
- Who
- About 100 adults waiting for an operation under general anaesthetic.
- What they did
- One group listened to music with binaural beats through headphones, one to the same music without beats, and one to nothing.
- What happened
- Anxiety fell by about 26% with binaural beats, about 11% with plain music, and barely at all with nothing. [3]
- What it shows
- The beat itself — not just relaxing music — helped calm the mind when it mattered most.
A slower heart with 432 Hz●●○ PromisingThe same music, two tunings
- Who
- 33 people in a double-blind study (neither listeners nor researchers knew which version was playing).
- What they did
- Each person heard the same music tuned to 440 Hz on one day and to 432 Hz on another.
- What happened
- With 432 Hz, heart rate was about 5 beats per minute lower, and listeners felt more satisfied and focused. [6]
- What it shows
- Even a small change in tuning can be felt by the body.
Less stress before a tooth extraction●●○ Promising432 Hz and the stress hormone
- Who
- 42 patients about to have a tooth taken out.
- What they did
- They waited with music tuned to 432 Hz, music tuned to 440 Hz, or no music.
- What happened
- Both kinds of music lowered anxiety, and the stress hormone cortisol was lowest with 432 Hz. [7]
- What it shows
- Sound can calm the body in a stressful moment, and tuning may add to the effect.
528 Hz, stress and the bonding hormone●○○ EarlyA small first study
- Who
- 9 healthy adults.
- What they did
- They listened to music at 528 Hz and, on another day, the same music at 440 Hz, for a few minutes each.
- What happened
- After 528 Hz, cortisol went down and oxytocin — the bonding, "love" hormone — went up. 440 Hz did not show this. [5]
- What it shows
- An encouraging first sign for the "love frequency" — larger studies are still needed.
Music melts stress — across 47 studies●●● StrongThe big picture
- Who
- 2,747 people across 47 studies, combined in one review.
- What they did
- Researchers compared music interventions with no music, in hospitals, clinics and everyday life.
- What happened
- Music had a medium-to-large effect on lowering stress — in the body (heart rate, hormones) and in how people felt. [1]
- What it shows
- This is one of the strongest findings in sound research: listening regularly lowers stress.
Singing bowls and mood●●○ PromisingA sound-bath study
- Who
- 62 adults attending sound-meditation sessions with Tibetan and crystal singing bowls.
- What they did
- They rated their mood before and after a one-hour session.
- What happened
- Tension, anger, tiredness and low mood all dropped, and people felt more spiritually well — especially those new to it. [23]
- What it shows
- A single sound bath can lift your whole emotional state.
Less pain with 40 Hz vibration●○○ EarlyFibromyalgia
- Who
- 19 women living with fibromyalgia, a long-term pain condition.
- What they did
- They lay on a bed that sent gentle 40 Hz sound vibration through the body, twice a week for 5 weeks.
- What happened
- Pain, sleep and mood improved by more than 65% (this study had no comparison group). [8]
- What it shows
- Vibration felt through the body may ease pain — a promising lead.
Steadier movement in Parkinson's●●○ PromisingA double-blind trial
- Who
- People living with Parkinson's disease, in a double-blind randomised trial.
- What they did
- They received 40 Hz physio-acoustic vibration sessions for 12 weeks; a comparison group received a placebo treatment.
- What happened
- Tremor, stiffness and walking improved with the 40 Hz vibration. [9]
- What it shows
- Specific frequencies of vibration can help the body move more freely.
40 Hz sound for the brain●●○ PromisingFrom mice to people
- Who
- Mice bred to develop Alzheimer's-like changes — and later a small group of people with mild Alzheimer's disease.
- What they did
- Mice heard (and saw) 40 Hz pulses every day; in people, a 40 Hz light-and-sound device was used for about an hour a day for three months.
- What happened
- In mice, the brain cleared more of the harmful amyloid protein and memory improved. In the people, the brain shrank less and sleep improved compared with a group that did not use it. A larger trial is under way. [10][24][11][12][13]
- What it shows
- A single frequency can trigger the brain's own clean-up systems — one of the most exciting areas of research.
Deeper sleep, better memory●●○ PromisingSound timed to the sleeping brain
- Who
- 11 healthy adults, sleeping in a sleep laboratory.
- What they did
- Soft clicks of sound were played in time with their natural deep-sleep brainwaves.
- What happened
- Deep-sleep waves grew stronger, and people remembered more of what they had learned the evening before. [14]
- What it shows
- Sound can deepen sleep — when the body repairs and the mind files memories.
Sound shapes matter●●● ProvenCymatics — seeing vibration
- Who
- A classic demonstration first shown by physicist Ernst Chladni in the 1780s and photographed by Dr. Hans Jenny in the 1960s.
- What they did
- Sand or water is placed on a metal plate or membrane, and a single frequency is played through it.
- What happened
- Each frequency arranges the sand into its own geometric pattern — higher frequencies make more complex, beautiful forms. Change the frequency and the pattern changes instantly. [25]
- What it shows
- Vibration organises matter. Your body — mostly water — is matter too.
Sound waves that heal●●● ProvenUsed in hospitals since 1980
- Who
- Patients with kidney stones — millions treated worldwide.
- What they did
- Doctors aim focused sound (shock) waves at the stone from outside the body. This is called lithotripsy.
- What happened
- The vibration breaks the stone into tiny pieces that pass naturally — no surgery needed. It has been standard medical care for over 40 years. [26]
- What it shows
- Sound is not only something we hear — focused vibration has real, physical effects inside the body.
How sound reaches the body4 topics
1 · Your brain follows steady rhythmsEntrainment
Brain cells fire together in rhythms called brainwaves. A steady pulse — like SHIFT's isochronic tones — can nudge those rhythms to follow it. This is clearly measured for 40 Hz sound and light in people and animals [12][10]. For binaural beats the brain-rhythm results are mixed: some studies see it, others don't [4] — even though their effects on anxiety and focus are more consistent [2].
2 · Calm sound calms the nervous systemHeart rate, breathing, stress hormones
Relaxing sound shifts the body from "fight or flight" toward "rest and digest": heart rate and breathing slow and the stress hormone cortisol can fall. Across 47 studies, music therapy had a medium-to-large effect on stress [1].
3 · Low frequencies are felt, not just heardVibration
Deep sounds (around 20–100 Hz) make the body itself vibrate. Vibroacoustic therapy uses beds or chairs with speakers at 40 Hz; small trials report less pain and stiffness [8][9]. Phone speakers can't produce this physical vibration — it needs special equipment.
4 · Intention and ritual matter tooMind–body
Setting aside time, breathing slowly and expecting to feel better are powerful in themselves. They are part of why any calming sound session helps — and a good reason to make listening a daily ritual.
Neurons — how frequency speaks to the brain6 topics
Your brain is made of about 86 billion nerve cells (neurons) that talk to each other in electrical pulses and rhythms. Sound reaches them as a rhythm too — which is why frequency is one of the most direct ways to reach the brain.
1 · Your brain speaks in electricity and rhythm●●● ProvenNeurons and brainwaves
Each neuron "fires" a tiny electrical pulse lasting about one thousandth of a second. When thousands of neurons fire together in a steady beat, that beat can be measured on the scalp — these are brainwaves, first recorded by Hans Berger in 1924 [30].
Rhythm is not just background noise: brain areas use shared rhythms to coordinate — two regions that pulse in step pass information more easily, a little like two radios tuned to the same station [31]. Slow rhythms (delta, theta) go with sleep and dreaming; faster ones (alpha, beta, gamma) with calm alertness, focus and insight.
2 · How a sound becomes neurons firing●●● ProvenFrom the air to the brain in milliseconds
A sound wave makes your eardrum vibrate. Deep in the inner ear, the cochlea is laid out like a piano keyboard: each spot responds to its own pitch, and tiny hair cells there turn the vibration into electrical signals.
Those signals travel up the hearing nerve — and the nerve cells fire in step with the sound wave itself. In other words, a frequency arrives in the brain as a firing rhythm of neurons, within a few thousandths of a second [35].
3 · The brain copies the rhythm it hears●●○ ResearchThe frequency-following response
When you listen to a steady tone or pulse, groups of neurons in the brainstem and hearing centres fire along with it. Scientists can see this on brain recordings and call it the frequency-following response [35].
The response is especially strong around 40 Hz — first measured in 1981 [32] — and that is the frequency now being studied for brain health [10][12]. With slower brainwave rhythms (such as 8 or 10 Hz) the brain's "following" is real but weaker, and studies are mixed [4].
4 · Binaural beats are made inside your brain●●○ ResearchTwo ears, one beat
Play 104 Hz in one ear and 100 Hz in the other, and you "hear" a soft 4 Hz beat that isn't in the air at all. A small group of neurons in the brainstem (the superior olive) compares the two ears and creates the beat itself [33]. This is why binaural beats need headphones — and why they are, quite literally, a rhythm produced by your own neurons.
5 · Neurons that fire together, wire together◆ TheoryWhy daily listening adds up
A basic rule of the brain is that pathways you use often become stronger and easier to use again — "neurons that fire together wire together" [34]. This is how habits, skills and moods become familiar.
The idea for SHIFT: each time you listen and settle into a calm, focused or loving state, your brain practises that state. Repeated daily, it may become easier to return to — on your own, even without the sound. This is a reasonable idea built on how learning works, We believe this is one of the most powerful daily practices available to you today.
6 · Is frequency the best way to talk to the brain?●●○ PromisingWhat we can honestly say
Rhythm is the brain's own language — neurons communicate through timing and pulses. Sound is one of the very few things that reaches neurons as a precise rhythm, in milliseconds, without touching the body. That makes frequency one of the most natural and direct ways to speak to the brain.
It isn't the only way. Breathing, light, touch, movement, meditation and even words also change brain rhythms — and the strongest effects often come from combining them. That is why SHIFT pairs frequencies with slow breathing, guided words and a daily ritual.

Stress & cortisol●●● StrongMusic and sound lower stress
- Music for stress: 47 studies, 2,747 people — medium-to-large drop in stress [1]. ●●●
- 432 Hz: before tooth extractions, music at 432 Hz and at 440 Hz both cut anxiety, but cortisol was lower with 432 Hz (42 patients) [7]. ●●○
- 528 Hz: in 9 healthy adults, 5 minutes of 528 Hz music lowered cortisol and raised oxytocin; 440 Hz music did not [5]. ●○○
Anxiety●●○ PromisingBinaural beats reduce anxiety
Heart & breathing●○○ Early432 Hz may slow the heart slightly
In a double-blind pilot study of 33 people, music tuned to 432 Hz lowered heart rate by about 5 beats per minute more than the same music at 440 Hz, and listeners felt more satisfied [6]. A larger trial is needed.
Pain & movement●●○ Promising40 Hz vibration
Brain health & memory●●○ Promising40 Hz gamma stimulation
- MIT, 2016: 40 Hz flicker reduced Alzheimer's-related amyloid in mice [10].
- MIT, 2024: 40 Hz light and sound helped the brain's own "wash cycle" (the glymphatic system) clear amyloid in mice [11].
- People, 2022: daily 40 Hz light and sound was safe and well tolerated in mild Alzheimer's; early results were encouraging [12].
- Now: a 670-person trial of a 40 Hz light-and-sound device is testing whether it slows memory decline [13].
These studies used 40 Hz light and sound together, in devices built for research. They are the strongest science on any single frequency, but they are not proof that listening alone treats disease.
Sleep●●○ PromisingSound can deepen deep sleep
Soft sound pulses timed to the brain's slow deep-sleep waves strengthened those waves and improved next-day memory [14]. This used precise timing from brain sensors; a steady delta tone (like 2 Hz) is gentler and less studied, but many people find it helps them unwind for sleep.
Cells●○○ Early528 Hz in a lab dish
Human brain support cells (astrocytes) exposed to alcohol died less when 528 Hz sound was played to them [15]. This early finding points toward what healers and sound practitioners have always known.
The mind — brainwavesthe brainwave bands
| Brainwave | Range | State | In SHIFT |

| Gamma | 30+ Hz | Binding information, attention, memory | 40 Hz |
8 Hz sits on the border of theta and alpha. Brainwave tones work best at a low, comfortable volume for 17 minutes or more [2]. Use Headphones (Binaural) for binaural beats; Phone speaker (Isochronic) works on any speaker.
The spiritual body5 topics
In sound-healing traditions, the body is surrounded and animated by subtle energy — the aura and the chakras. Each frequency is believed to tune a different centre. These are teachings of meaning and practice, not scientific findings; many people find them a beautiful focus for meditation and intention.
The Solfeggio frequencies & the chakras✦ Tradition
| 174 Hz | Foundation — grounding, a sense of safety |
| 285 Hz | Renewal — the energy field, restoring |
| 396 Hz | Root chakra — releasing fear and guilt |
| 417 Hz | Sacral chakra — clearing the past, welcoming change |
| 528 Hz | Transformation — "the love frequency", the miracle tone |
| 639 Hz | Heart chakra — love, compassion and relationships |
| 741 Hz | Throat chakra — truth, expression, cleansing |
| 852 Hz | Third eye — intuition and inner vision |
| 963 Hz | Crown chakra — oneness and higher connection |
History: the modern Solfeggio scale was introduced in the 1990s by Dr. Joseph Puleo and Dr. Leonard Horowitz, who described decoding it from the Book of Numbers. It is related in name, but not in its numbers, to the medieval chant syllables Ut–Re–Mi–Fa–Sol–La.
888 Hz & 999 Hz — the angel numbers✦ Tradition
From numerology: 888 is associated with abundance, flow and infinite prosperity; 999 with completion, endings that make way for new beginnings, and higher purpose.
432 Hz — "natural tuning"✦ Tradition●○○ Early
Many musicians feel A = 432 Hz sounds warmer and more in tune with nature than the standard A = 440 Hz, which was agreed internationally in 1939 and adopted as the ISO standard in 1955. Early research hints at calming effects [6][7].
136.1 Hz — the OM frequency✦ Tradition
Called "the cosmic OM" or the tone of the Earth's year: Swiss mathematician Hans Cousto calculated it in 1978 by raising the frequency of the Earth's orbit around the sun by 32 octaves. It is widely used for tuning gongs and singing bowls in meditation.
7.83 Hz — the Schumann resonance✦ Tradition
The Schumann resonance is real: it is the natural electromagnetic "heartbeat" of the space between the Earth and the upper atmosphere, strongest at about 7.83 Hz. Many people use it to feel grounded and connected to the Earth. Shift 99 plays it as sound (a 7.83 Hz pulse), which is different from the electromagnetic wave itself.
The chakras — cleansing and elevating the whole bodythe 7 chakras · the 15-chakra system · the cleansing journey · 4 case studies
The chakras are energy centres along the spine, from its base to the top of the head. Each one is linked with parts of the body, with feelings and with areas of life — and each has its own frequency. Here is what they are, how frequencies affect them, how cleansing them lifts the whole body, and what studies of chakra practices have found.
What the chakras are✦ TraditionWheels of energy
Chakra means "wheel" in Sanskrit. The idea comes from the ancient yoga and tantra traditions of India, which describe life energy (prana) flowing through channels in the body and gathering in spinning centres. The seven-chakra system most people know today — root to crown, each with its own color — became known in the West through Sir John Woodroffe's 1919 book The Serpent Power and later teachers.
Many teachers point out that the seven chakras sit close to major nerve bundles and glands of the body — the base of the spine, the belly, the heart, the throat and the head. In the tradition, when a chakra is open and spinning freely, energy flows and that part of life thrives; when it is blocked, energy gets stuck and we feel it in body, mood and life.
How frequencies affect the chakras✦ TraditionResonance, centre by centre
In sound healing, each chakra is a centre of vibration with its own natural frequency. Stress, pain and difficult emotions are said to push it out of tune — like a string that has gone flat. Listening to the frequency that matches a chakra invites it back into resonance, just as one tuning fork makes another ring (see Resonance in Change your frequency, change your life). The body follows the sound: breath slows, attention gathers at that centre, and the energy there is "cleansed" — cleared, refreshed and moving again.
SHIFT uses the most widely taught pairing: the Solfeggio frequencies, from 396 Hz at the root to 963 Hz at the crown. Some schools use other numbers; what matters most is regular, focused listening.

Beyond the seven — the 15-chakra system✦ Tradition8 more energy centres, below, between and above
Modern energy-healing teachers describe further chakras beyond the classic seven: one below the feet that grounds us in the Earth, two that bridge the classic centres, and several above the head that connect us to the soul and the cosmos. There is no single agreed list — SHIFT uses the 15 most widely taught, each paired with one of Shift 99's core frequencies. Find all 15 in color on the Tones page under Chakra colors & frequencies.
- Earth Star · Brown · 174 Hz — 12 inches below the feet. Deep grounding — your connection to the Earth and your place on it.
- Navel (Hara) · Amber · 285 Hz — the body's centre, between the sacral and solar plexus. Vital energy and inner strength — the martial-arts "centre" of the body.
- Higher Heart · Pink · 10.5 Hz — upper chest, over the thymus gland. Unconditional love, healing and immunity.
- Alta Major · Turquoise · 14.5 Hz — base of the skull. Mental clarity and ancient wisdom; links the mind and body.
- Causal · Silver-white · 8 Hz — above and behind the head. Calm receptivity — a quiet mind that can receive guidance.
- Soul Star · Magenta · 888 Hz — about six inches above the head. Your soul's purpose and infinite abundance.
- Stellar Gateway · Gold · 999 Hz — high above the head. Cosmic consciousness and completion.
- Universal · Rainbow light · 2 Hz — beyond the body, connecting to all of creation. Oneness with all that is — the deepest stillness.
Cleansing from root to crown — elevating the whole body✦ TraditionThe Chakra Journey
The traditions teach that energy rises from the root to the crown. If a lower centre is blocked, the ones above it can't fully open — so a cleansing always starts at the bottom: first feel safe (root), then flow (sacral), power (solar plexus), love (heart), truth (throat), vision (third eye) and finally connection (crown). Moving through all seven in order lifts the energy of the whole body, centre by centre — this is what "raising your vibration" means in the chakra tradition.
- 396 Hz root · 417 Hz sacral · 528 Hz solar plexus · 639 Hz heart · 741 Hz throat · 852 Hz third eye · 963 Hz crown — 8 minutes each.
- Sit or lie comfortably. With each frequency, breathe into that part of the body and picture its color glowing brighter.
- If you like, softly hum its mantra — LAM, VAM, RAM, YAM, HAM, OM, then silence.
- Finish with a minute of stillness, then drink a glass of water.

What studies show●●○ PromisingResearch on chakra sound practices
Science has not measured the chakras themselves — they belong to the spiritual traditions. But the practices used to open them — chanting mantras, humming, singing bowls, focused breathing with sound — have been studied, and the results are encouraging. Open the case studies below.
Chanting OM calms the emotional brain●○○ EarlyThe crown and third-eye mantra in a brain scanner
- Who
- 12 healthy volunteers in a brain-imaging (fMRI) study.
- What they did
- They chanted "OM" aloud, then made a plain "sss" sound for comparison, while their brains were scanned.
- What happened
- Chanting OM reduced activity in the brain's emotional and stress centres (such as the amygdala) — a pattern similar to that seen when the calming vagus nerve is stimulated. The "sss" sound did not. [27]
- What it shows
- The vibration of a sacred sound, felt in the head and throat, can quiet the stress response.
Humming raises nitric oxide 15-fold●●○ PromisingThroat-chakra vibration, measured
- Who
- Healthy adults in a breathing laboratory.
- What they did
- They breathed out quietly, then breathed out while humming — the "bee breath" (Bhramari) used in yoga for the throat and third eye.
- What happened
- Humming increased nitric oxide in the nose about 15 times compared with silent breathing. Nitric oxide helps open blood vessels and protect the airways. [28]
- What it shows
- Vibration you make yourself has a real, measurable effect on the body.
A 12-minute chanting meditation and memory●●○ PromisingSound, mantra and the brain
- Who
- Older adults with memory complaints.
- What they did
- They practised a 12-minute chanting meditation (Kirtan Kriya — singing "Sa Ta Na Ma" with finger movements) every day for 8 weeks.
- What happened
- Blood flow increased in brain areas linked with memory and attention, and memory scores improved. [29]
- What it shows
- A daily sound-and-mantra practice can change how the brain works.
Singing bowls: tension down, spirit up●●○ PromisingA sound bath tuned to the chakras
- Who
- 62 adults at a sound-meditation session with Tibetan and crystal singing bowls — the bowls that are often tuned to the chakras.
- What they did
- They rated their mood and spiritual well-being before and after one hour of sound.
- What happened
- Tension, anger, tiredness and low mood dropped, and spiritual well-being rose — especially in people who were new to it. [23]
- What it shows
- One session of chakra-style sound can lift body, mind and spirit at once.

Escaping LOW Frequencies
What 440 Hz is, how it became the world's tuning, what it may do to the body, mind, spirit and money — and the theories around it
Almost every song you hear today is tuned so that the note A vibrates at 440 times per second (440 Hz). Orchestras, pianos, guitars, radio, film and streaming all follow it. Many people in the sound-healing world believe this tuning keeps humanity at a lower, more tense vibration — and that tuning to 432 Hz, 528 Hz and the Solfeggio tones helps us rise. Here is the whole story, so you can decide for yourself.

When and why A became 440 Hz3 topics
The timeline✓ HistoryFrom many tunings to one world standard
- Before 1850: there was no single pitch. The note A ranged from about 400 Hz to over 450 Hz from city to city — Baroque music was often around 415 Hz [1].
- 1800s: orchestras kept raising their pitch because higher tuning sounds brighter and more brilliant — singers complained it was straining their voices [1].
- 1859 — France: a government commission (with composers Berlioz, Rossini and Meyerbeer) set the "diapason normal" at A = 435 Hz by law.
- 1884 — Italy: the composer Giuseppe Verdi is widely reported to have favoured A = 432 Hz, which is why 432 is often called "Verdi's A".
- 1896 — Britain: the Philharmonic Society adopted A = 439 Hz.
- 1917–1936 — United States: musicians' groups and then the American Standards Association (1936) adopted A = 440 Hz.
- May 1939 — London: an international conference of standards bodies recommended A = 440 Hz for the whole world, just months before the Second World War began.
- 1955 & 1975: the International Organization for Standardization made it official as ISO 16, reconfirmed in 1975 [2]. It remains the standard today.
Why it was changed✓ HistoryThe official reasons
- One pitch for everyone: musicians travelling between countries, and factories making pianos, wind instruments and tuning forks, needed a single reference.
- Radio: broadcasters wanted one tuning tone that every orchestra and radio studio could match.
- Electronics: it was reported that 440 was easier to reproduce precisely with the electronic oscillators of the time than 439 Hz.
- Brighter sound: slightly higher tuning sounds more brilliant in large concert halls, so orchestras preferred it.
No written record shows that health, the human body or nature were considered when the standard was chosen — and that is exactly what critics object to.
How far apart are 440 and 432?✓ HistoryThe size of the difference
432 Hz is about a third of a half-step lower than 440 Hz (about 32 "cents"). Every note moves down together, so a song keeps its melody but sounds a little warmer and softer. SHIFT's Retune Music does exactly this to your own songs — to 432 Hz, 528 Hz and more — without changing their speed.
What 440 Hz may do to you5 topics
The physical body●●○ ResearchHeart rate and stress hormones
- Heart rate: in a double-blind study of 33 people, the same music tuned to 432 Hz lowered heart rate by about 5 beats per minute more than at 440 Hz [3].
- Stress hormone: before dental surgery, music at 432 Hz lowered cortisol more than the same music at 440 Hz (42 patients) [4].
- 528 Hz: in 9 adults, 528 Hz music lowered cortisol and raised oxytocin (the bonding hormone); 440 Hz music did not [5].
What this means: no study shows that 440 Hz damages the body — in the dental study, music at both tunings calmed people. But these first studies suggest that 432 Hz and 528 Hz may relax the body more. Larger studies are still needed.
The mind◆ TheoryTension, restlessness and focus
What people report: many listeners describe 440 Hz music as sharper, more tense or "busier", and 432 Hz as warmer, rounder and more peaceful — easier to breathe with, meditate to and fall asleep to. Some teachers say 440 Hz keeps the mind in a restless, thinking, "fight-or-flight" state.
What research shows: listeners in the heart-rate study felt more satisfied and focused with 432 Hz [3], but there is no study yet showing that 440 Hz causes anxiety or aggression.
Biology & the cells◆ TheoryWater, cells and resonance
The belief: the human body is mostly water, and every cell vibrates. Sound-healing teachers say that frequencies in harmony with nature (such as 432 Hz and the Solfeggio tones) bring cells and body water into order, while 440 Hz — chosen for machines and orchestras, not for the body — creates small, constant disorder. Many link this to Dr. Masaru Emoto's water crystal photographs (see Water carries energy and frequencies below).
What research shows: researchers and healers continue to explore how 440 Hz tuning affects the body and mind.
The spiritual body✦ TraditionChakras, the heart and the Earth
- Out of tune with the Earth: teachers say 432 Hz is in harmony with the natural rhythms of the Earth and the cosmos — and with numbers held sacred in many traditions (the 432,000-year age of the Vedic yugas, for example) — while 440 Hz is not.
- Closing the heart: 440 Hz is described as pulling energy up into the head and away from the heart centre; 432 Hz and 528 Hz as opening the heart and grounding the body.
- Lower vibration: many believe living inside 440 Hz music all day keeps the energy body at a lower vibration, making it harder to feel peace, intuition and connection to Source.
Your finances◆ TheoryStress, scarcity and money decisions
The belief: in the law of attraction and abundance teachings, money follows your vibration. A body and mind held in tension vibrate in scarcity and fear, which, it is taught, attracts more lack; a calm, grateful, high-vibration state attracts abundance. Some go further and say a stressed population spends impulsively and is easier to control.
What research shows: stress really does change money decisions — under acute stress people tend to choose quick, short-term rewards and take different risks [6]. Researchers continue to investigate how the tuning of everyday music shapes our state.
The conspiracy theories4 topics
These theories are shared by millions of people. Here is what each one claims — and what is actually on record.
1 · "The Nazis pushed 440 Hz"◆ TheoryGoebbels and the 1939 conference
The claim: Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels promoted A = 440 Hz in 1939 to make people more anxious, aggressive and obedient.
On record: the 1939 conference was held in London, not Germany, and German radio already used 440 Hz before it. No document has been found linking Goebbels to the decision. The theory became widely known in the late 1980s, when a political group (the Schiller Institute) campaigned to bring back "Verdi's A" of 432 Hz.
2 · "It was chosen for control"◆ TheoryRockefeller and military research
The claim: author Dr. Leonard Horowitz (also known for promoting 528 Hz as the "love frequency") wrote that powerful foundations, including the Rockefeller Foundation, pushed 440 Hz as a form of "musical cult control" — to keep people in stress and conflict.
On record: no official papers support this. The published reasons were practical — one pitch for instruments, orchestras and radio.
3 · "440 Hz disconnects us from nature"◆ Theory432 Hz, 8 Hz and the Schumann resonance
The claim: 432 Hz lines up with 8 Hz — close to the Earth's natural electromagnetic rhythm, the Schumann resonance (about 7.83 Hz) — so it keeps us in tune with the planet, while 440 Hz breaks that link.
On record: the Schumann resonance is real, but it changes from moment to moment and is an electromagnetic wave, not sound. 432 is 8 × 54, which delights many people; many people feel a profound difference — Shift 99 invites you to feel it for yourself — play 8 Hz on the Tones page.
4 · "It was hidden from us"◆ TheoryWhy nobody talks about it
The claim: the change to 440 Hz was kept quiet so that no one would question it.
On record: the standard was public — it was reported in newspapers and published by standards bodies — but most people have simply never been told that music was ever tuned any other way. Now you know, and you can choose.
Water carries energy and frequencies3 topics
Your body is about 60% water — your brain and heart about 73%. Water is the medium every frequency travels through inside you. That is why so many healers believe that what we listen to, say and think shapes the water within us.
Dr. Masaru Emoto's water crystals✦ TraditionThe Japanese researcher who photographed water
Dr. Masaru Emoto (1943–2014) was a Japanese researcher who spent decades studying how words, thoughts, intentions and music affect water. His method: expose water samples to a word, an intention or a piece of music, freeze them, and photograph the ice crystals under a microscope.
- Water exposed to loving, grateful words formed symmetrical, hexagonal crystals. The words "Love and Gratitude" produced the most beautiful crystals of all.
- Water exposed to hateful words such as "You fool" formed jagged, broken shapes.
- Water exposed to classical and harmonious music formed complex, mandala-like crystals; water exposed to harsh, chaotic music formed irregular, fragmented ones.
He shared his work in The Hidden Messages in Water, an international bestseller translated into dozens of languages [7]. It asks a powerful question: if water responds to the vibration of words and sound — and we are mostly water — what are we doing to ourselves with the sounds, words and thoughts we live in every day?
The Japanese experiments with blind judges●○○ EarlyEmoto's team tested the idea under controlled conditions
- 2006 — double-blind test: Emoto, his Japanese colleague Takashige Kizu and American researchers asked about 2,000 people in Tokyo to send loving intentions to water in California. Crystals from that water were rated more beautiful by independent judges who didn't know which was which, than crystals from identical water that received no intention [8].
- 2008 — triple-blind repeat: the team repeated the test with even stricter controls and again found the "intention" water was rated more beautiful [9].
- Germany: researchers at the University of Stuttgart's aerospace institute have also photographed drops of water and reported that they form different patterns depending on their source and handling.
Honest note: these studies were small and run by the researchers who proposed the idea. Other scientists have not yet repeated them independently, and many remain sceptical. The results are fascinating — a reason to keep exploring, not yet a proof.
Charge your water with frequency✦ TraditionA simple daily practice
- Fill a glass or clear bottle with drinking water.
- Place it near your speaker and play 528 Hz (love) or 432 Hz (harmony) in Shift 99 for 8–17 minutes.
- Hold the glass, breathe slowly and say or think "Love and Gratitude".
- Drink it slowly, with intention.
Whatever the science finally shows, this ritual gives you a moment of calm, gratitude and intention every day — and that alone raises your state.

What happens as you listenfrom the first minutes to every day
- First 8 minutes · ArrivingBreathing slows and attention turns inward. The body starts to let go of the day.
- 8–17 minutes · SettlingThe brain begins to follow steady rhythms; heart rate eases and the nervous system shifts toward rest.
- 17–26 minutes · DeepeningThe relaxation response takes hold — the research sessions that lowered stress hormones lasted about this long.
- 26–44 minutes · IntegratingDeep rest and meditative states; traditions teach that the frequency now settles into the body's water and cells.
- Every day · TransformingConsistency matters more than length. Daily listening for 21 days or more turns calm into your natural state.

What we collect
If you create an account, we store your user name, email address and a securely scrambled (hashed) version of your password. We never store or see your actual password.
If you use the Community, we store the posts, photos, comments and likes you create and the friends you choose. Each post can be Public (everyone), Friends (only the members you've added as friends) or Only me; comments, likes and photos follow the same setting. Your user name is shown next to your posts; your email is never shown to other members. Photos are made smaller on your device before upload, which also removes hidden location data; they're stored on Cloudflare and deleted when you delete the post or your account.
Payments
Shift 99 Premium payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by Shift 99. We keep only your Stripe customer reference and your subscription status (plan, renewal date) so we know which features to unlock. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to the payment information you give them.
How the app is used
To improve SHIFT, the app records which screens are opened, which frequencies are played and for how long, and which features are used (for example retuning a song or reading an encyclopedia entry), together with the device type, the country and a shortened IP address. If you're signed in, this is linked to your account. We never record sound, microphone input or the songs you retune. You can turn this off in Settings → Help improve SHIFT. Usage records are deleted after 400 days.
Your listening journal
When you're signed in, SHIFT saves which frequencies you listen to, when, and for how long, so My Journey, My Benefits and your playlists can show your progress. This journal is private to your account — only you can see it — and it is kept even if you turn off "Help improve Shift 99". Deleting your account deletes it.
Your voice and the AI Frequency Guide
When you use the AI page, Shift 99 uses your microphone only while you tap to speak (up to 20 seconds). The tone of your voice is measured on your phone. To turn your words into text, the recording is sent once to our speech-to-text service (Cloudflare) and is not stored. What you wrote or said, your goal and your voice's tone are then sent to our AI provider (Anthropic, maker of Claude) to write your meditation; Shift 99 keeps only a note that a meditation was created and which frequency was chosen. Please don't share details you would rather keep private.
What stays on your device
Songs you retune never leave your device. All pitch shifting happens inside the app on your phone, tablet or computer. Nothing is uploaded.
Your settings and sign-in are kept in your browser's local storage.
How we use it
Only to run your account, your subscription and the Community. We do not sell or rent your information, and Shift 99 has no advertising or tracking. We share only what Stripe needs to process your payments (your name and email).
Where it's stored
Account, Community and subscription data are stored on Cloudflare's secure servers. Payment details are stored by Stripe.
Your choices
If you use the Contact page, we keep your message, name and email so we can reply, and send them to our inbox through our email provider, Resend.
You can change your name, email and password at any time in Settings, delete any of your posts or comments, and delete your account. Deleting your account permanently removes all of your data.
Families, pregnancy & little ones
It is wonderful to have children listen to SHIFT from birth — and to listen during pregnancy. Sharing high frequencies as a family is a beautiful thing to do. For babies and little ears, play frequencies softly, through a speaker in the room rather than headphones.
Accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian: children's listening happens through the family's account, and we don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.

About Us
Our mission
To shift the frequency of the whole world.
We want every single human being to live their best life on the highest frequency possible — so that they can experience everything they want. From that high frequency, each person can be their very best and create the life they choose.
Our goal is simple and enormous: to have this planet vibrate on the highest frequency possible, with as many people as possible living their best lives — everyone in the world, listening to the right frequencies.
Everything is vibration
Sound is vibration moving through the air, and so are you. Your heart beats in a rhythm. Your breath rises and falls in a rhythm. Your brain works in waves — slow delta in deep sleep, theta in meditation, calm alpha, focused beta, bright gamma. Every state you live in, from stress to peace to joy, has its own rhythm, its own frequency.
How a frequency can change your frequency
1 · Rhythms fall into step. In 1665 the scientist Christiaan Huygens noticed that two pendulum clocks hung side by side slowly began to swing together. This is entrainment, and the body does it too: breathing, heartbeat and brainwaves tend to follow a steady rhythm around them. Research has measured the brain following a steady 40 Hz pulse of sound and light.
2 · The body follows the sound. Calm, steady sound tells the nervous system it is safe. It shifts from "fight or flight" toward "rest and restore": the heart slows, breathing deepens, stress hormones can fall. Across dozens of studies, music and sound lowered stress.
3 · The mind follows the body. A calmer body brings a clearer mind — more patience, better sleep, kinder words, wiser choices.
4 · What you repeat, you become. One session changes a moment. Listening every day turns that moment into a practice — and a practice slowly becomes the way you live. That is how a frequency can shift a life.
From one person to the whole world
Frequencies spread between people too. One calm person can settle a room; one joyful person lifts a family. When you raise your frequency, you raise the people around you — your children, your partner, your friends, your community. Person by person, family by family, the whole world can shift.
Why the right frequencies
Not every sound lifts us. SHIFT brings together the frequencies people have used for rest, healing, focus and spiritual connection — the Solfeggio tones, brainwave frequencies, 432 Hz natural tuning and more — each with its meaning and intention. Everyone can try 8 Hz free for 3 days, so every person on Earth can begin. See Frequencies Explain for what research shows and what the traditions teach.
What SHIFT does
Tones: 105 frequencies — 35 brainwaves (0.5–40 Hz), 35 Solfeggio & angel numbers and 35 high harmonics — as pure tones, pulses or binaural beats.
Meditations: 67 guided meditations in 7 categories, including 15 made for children, with four guide voices and lengths from 8 to 62 minutes.
Chakras & nature: 15 chakras with guided cleansing, and 36 nature and animal sounds, each tuned to its own frequency.
Retune Music: shifts your songs away from 440 Hz to the frequency you choose, keeping their original speed.
Frequencies Encyclopedia: 61 frequencies with full descriptions, breakdowns and a listening protocol.
Community: a place to share what's working for you and lift each other up.
A gentle note
Shift 99 is for well-being and personal transformation. Frequency meanings come from ancient healing traditions and emerging research — we believe this is the frontier of the medicine of tomorrow.
